B.P.C.A. April 4, 2017
In the absence of the president, a meeting of the Broadview Park Civic Assn. was called to order by secretary/treasurer Jan Washburn at 7:30 pm, April 4, 2017, at Sunview Park. Following the pledge of allegiance, BSO Lt. Santiago reminded the members that the non-emergency phone is 954-764-HELP. You can remain anonymous if you wish.
He said there have been two vehicle break-ins, 4131 SW 20th Street and 1478 SW 47th Ave. It is important that you do not leave valuables in your car where they are visible or leave your car unlocked. He said the group home on the canal road has been checked and is in compliance with zoning codes. There are ten men there. Also, two seventeen-year-old youth car-jacked a woman. They were caught and are currently in jail.
Fire Chief Ken Kronheim said he has been with the fire department twenty-seven years. Their goal is to have a fire truck functioning at Station 23 within two weeks. It is currently at the Davie fire house on SR 7 just south of I-595, so it is much closer than it was down in Dania. They are currently purchasing furniture for the station. His goal is to be engaged with the community and sponsor events such as giving out smoke detectors. There will be three firefighters on duty and all are hazmat trained.
Elaine Barrett of Waste and Recycling reminded everyone of the community clean-up on Saturday, April 8th. Volunteers should report to Sunview Park.
Aretha Wimberly our county liaison reported that the pocket park on 50th Avenue is under construction and should be complete by the end of June. Solar lights have been placed to highlight the Broadview Park entryway sign at 49th Avenue.
Sheryl Dickey of Dickey Consulting said she wants community input into possible workshops regarding our needs. There will be a 2 ½ – 3 hour meeting in regard to this, possibly June 3rd.
Aretha reminded the members that BSO has a community event at the Central Regional County Park on 441 at Sunrise on April 29, starting at 10 am. There will be food trucks, bounce house, and a variety of activities.
There is a Safe Route Florida app. If you see an issue, you take a picture of it and send it in. The picture will be forwarded to the correct department and you can follow the issue until it is corrected. You can see if an issue in the community has already been reported.
Jan asked the members if they were interested in having Evan Jenne, our district’s representative in Tallahassee to speak at our June meeting.
